Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has voiced his concerns about Facebook's news blockade, stating that it endangers people's safety. With wildfires devastating parts of Canada, Trudeau emphasized that the company appears to prioritize corporate profits over providing timely updates to the public, as reported by Bloomberg.

Meta, Facebook's parent company, had previously blocked news links from its platforms, including Instagram, as a protest against Canada's Online News Act. A spokesperson from Meta clarified that their "Safety Check" feature still allows individuals to notify others of their safety. Additionally, alerts from government and emergency services on social media remain unaffected by the blockade
