Updated: Mar 19, 2022
Apple held its first big event of the year 2022. Dubbed ‘Peek Performance’, Apple launched a slew of products at the event broadcast live from Apple Park. The list includes: iPhone SE 2022, iPad Air 2022, M1 Ultra chip, Studio Display and Studio Display.
The new-generation iPhone SE is priced at Rs 43,900, Rs 1000 more than iPhone SE 2020. iPhone SE 2022 goes on sale in India on March 18. It retains the same design and size as iPhone SE 2020. iPad Air running on M1 chips launches at Rs 54,900 onwards.
iPad Air colors include -- pink purple, blue, starlight, space gray. M1 chip, called Ultra, makes entry for desktop computers. M1 Ultra will first be built into the Mac Studio -- a new Mac computer. Apple has also announced new color of iPhone 13 series. We covered the event live. Below is how it happened:
iPhone 13 Pro now in Green Color---
The base iPhone 13 128GB price in India is set at Rs 79,900. Apple has also launched the iPhone 13 256GB and 512GB storage options in India. The iPhone 13 price in India for the 256GB storage variant is set at Rs 89,900, whereas the 512GB can be bought for Rs Rs 1,09,900.

Apart from the newly-launched green color, the iPhone 13 comes in pink, blue, midnight, starlight, and (PRODUCT) RED.
iPhone 13 got a new color at the Apple event hosted on March 8. Apple refreshed the iPhone 13 lineup by launching the vanilla model in a new Green color option. The iPhone 13 Pro also gets a new Alpine Green color in India and other markets.
iPhone SE (2022)---
The iPhone SE (2022) now has an IP67 rating as well. While it continues with the single camera at the back, Apple says it comes with features seen on the iPhone 13 such as new Photo moods, HDR 4, etc. It will get run the latest iOS 15, of course, and Apple says it will get updates for years to come. There's no more plastic wrap either with the box in keeping with Apple's environmental efforts.
Regardless of the SoC, 5G will remain the big USP since it will be the affordable Apple phone with 5G support. Apple may also reduce prices for the previous two generations of the iPhone SE, giving them new entry-level price points.
For reference the current pricing of the second-generation iPhone SE starts at Rs. 42,500, and the new model is expected to start at the same price. The new base variant may also start at 64GB of internal storage, with additional 128GB and 256GB variants available as well.
The price: iPhone SE now starts at $429, so yes, it is slightly more expensive than previous iPhone SE variants.
APPLE TV PLUS ANNOUNCES FRIDAY NIGHT BASEBALL.
Apple’s streaming service will feature two Major League Baseball games on Friday nights during the regular season. In the US and Canada, there’s also a new 24/7 MLB livestream with replays, news, highlights, and analysis, plus on-demand highlights and a new MLB Big Inning live show.
Apple Studio Display---
The Mac Studio starts at Rs 1,89,900, and Rs 1,70,910 for education. Other configurations will cost more. The M1 Ultra variant of the Mac Studio starts at Rs 3,89,900. The Apple Studio Display starts at Rs 1,59,900, and Rs 1,43,910 for education.
The Studio Display has an all-screen design with narrow border, and an aluminum body. It is powered by A15 Bionic chipset inside as well. This is a 27.5-inch display, and comes with an anti-reflective coating. The display can be tilted up to 30-degree, and the unit can be wall mounted - - in portrait or landscape modes.
Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Max chips come with a 10-core CPU that has eight high-performance cores and two high-efficiency cores. The M1 Pro chip has a 16-core GPU, whereas the M1 Max has a 32-core GPU. In terms of RAM, the M1 Pro chip supports 32GB of RAM, whereas the M1 Max supports 64GB of RAM.
The new Apple Mac desktop machine is likely to get the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, and a chip that is even more powerful than the M1 Max.
The Mac Studio is the latest entry in Apple’s Mac lineup — it’s basically like a Mac Mini aimed at creative professionals, with tons of I/O (it has at least four Thunderbolt ports and an SD card slot on the front), cooling, and processing power.
Revamped iPad Air ---
Apple is revamping its iPad Air with the M1 chip set, which has an 8-core GPU. This tab, according to Apple, is twice as fast as the Windows 10 laptops in the same price range. The M1 chipset has a 16-core neural engine on the iPad Air.
iPad Air price in India is set at Rs 54,900 for the base model with 64GB of internal storage. This variant comes with only WiFi support. There is also a 256GB storage option. Alongside, the iPad Air 5G variant is priced at Rs 68,900.
The iPad Air comes in space grey, starlight, pink, purple, and a new blue color. It goes on sale starting March 18.
THE 27-INCH IMAC IS NO MORE
The discontinuation of the 27-inch, Intel-based iMac wasn’t explicitly announced on stage, but they’ve disappeared from Apple’s store. It seems like now you have to choose between a Studio setup or the M1 iMac with a 24-inch screen.
And it's a wrap: iPhone SE, a new iPad Air, Mac Studio and Studio display and new color options for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro unveiled.

Yes, but now I am less likely to buy a new phone as frequently, just like I reduced the frequency of buying iPads after the iPad 4 came out like six months after the iPad 3. I would have bought a new iPad every other year, now I tend to wait three or four years. Even with the iPhone 13, my choice to buy was more about it being nice to have and getting more for the trade-in. I wanted a new toy but was perfectly happy with my existing phone(Green 11 Pro Max).
If Apple starts doing seasonal changes, it’s easier to say "I can wait a few more months and see if something better comes out."
I’d think…
I do not like these mid-cycle color refreshes. I would have bought the green version of the iPhone 13 Pro when I upgraded last year, or I would have waiting six months if I knew this new color was coming.
I am not sure why Apple is choosing to do this. Color is not enough of an incentive to buy a new phone for most people, and all it does is annoy people who bought the phone at launch because they didn’t know another option would be available. I actually would prefer this to my grey iPhone 13 Pro. This is shades of the iPad 4 to me.
I suppose this reinforces the healthier "don’t buy a new device if…
I skipped the iPhone 11 Pro and was sort of bummed Apple dropped green for the 12 Pro. Blue wasn’t bad, but I had my heart set on a green one that didn’t arrive. Not enough to convince me to upgrade my 12 now, not by a long shot, but I hope the colour sticks around for when I next upgrade, probably next year.
I really liked the 13’s green in the images I saw from the Apple event. Now seeing the 13 and 13 Pro side by side, I much prefer the Pro’s shade of green. I’m not eligible for an upgrade either way, but the press images look much different than real world to my eyes.
Is Apple now partnered with Disney? I ask because the power jack on the Mac Studio sure looks like one of the "Hidden Mickeys" that can be found throughout the Disney theme parks…
